If your looking for a diy venue to hire near Willunga. At Magpie Springs, people have hosted thousands of joyful, low-key gatherings since 2013 in our beautiful rural setting on Willunga Hill. Our front garden and pergola area (perfect for intimate groups), combined with the licensed Cellar Door Art Gallery building, offer a relaxed escape with vineyard views, gardens, if your lucky and quiet wildlife. Important: When you hire our space, YOU are the host! – not Magpie Springs.
We provide the location and expect our estate-grown wines to be used on the day. You organize your gathering as you envision, and provide the rest - it’s your day. Understand what is onsite so you can plan appropriately. Forward planning and communication is always the key for any day to be remembered for the right reasons. Typically, these have been picnic style or byo BBQ days, very low key. In-out, one day no fuss: - Hens’ parties, weddings, Christmas parties, work team bonding days, birthday celebrations, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, retirement parties, baby showers, Memorials or life Celebrations or friends just getting together. The list has been endless.
Our space gives the freedom to DIY. Bring your own style/food, and focus on connection in a relaxed garden setting with vineyard views.
Magpie Springs is a dry-hire / DIY / bespoke venue near Willunga.
You plan, style, cater, and manage the day exactly as you envision. This gives you full flexibility – and full responsibility – for a wonderful experience. (We're not party planners, if need be we can share a list of trusted local providers who others have used onsite to help if needed. eg caterers, ) We have found: - Understanding expectations, planning and communication so every one knows what they are doing and when, will make the day memorable for the right reasons! The Cellar Door and Art Gallery stay open to the public during weekend hours (11am–5pm) unless you opt for exclusive private closure (additional fee – ask us!) or opt for an after hrs gathering. (additional fee - ask us!) Our regular custom is important, so the side garden often serves public patrons while your group enjoys the front. Site Hire Fees for small gatherings.
$15 per person for 11am–5pm (our standard weekend hours, Sat/Sun).
Additional $1500 for 5pm–11pm extension.
For full private closure (no public access): Additional $1500.
Payment via PayPal – we'll invoice using your email.
What We Provide
Exclusive access to an area in the front garden or pergola as your main function space.
Pergola area equipped with 4 tables and 16 chairs (need more? Hire extras locally).
Our boutique, estate-grown wines – exclusively dispensed/purchased through the Cellar Door (our front garden and cellar door area is licenced - compliance is a must!).
Basic amenities (toilets – bring extra paper for groups 30+)
Hot drinks available for purchase (coffee, tea, hot chocolate).
On-site parking.
A peaceful, picturesque rural backdrop.
Basic site orientation on arrival for your guests.
Inside space is limited. Under 15 people only!

What You (the Host) Are Responsible For
How to make your guests comfortable and to ensure everything runs smoothly (and avoid unwanted surprises) Plan ahead:
All food/catering, non-alcoholic drinks soft drinks, water, juices. Bring ice!
Extra seating, tables, trestles, cutlery, glassware, plates, linens, decorations, lighting, sound, heaters/fans (deliveries to grass/lawn only – you handle setup/removal). Hire options on request.
Full setup, styling, and cleanup – leave the space as you found it (bring rubbish bags; remove all waste yourself). Arrive early to set up.
Coordinating suppliers/vendors (notify us in advance every vendor likely to be involved. They often need guidance where to set up or plug in for power, connect us so we can help you make your day seemless).
Safe transport for guests (organize a bus for groups. It will relieve the stress of guests arriving safely home)
Bring insect repellent (warmer months)
Cake knife (usually forgotten)
Jackets! ( Willunga Hill can be 10°C cooler than surrounding areas - after 4pm temp dives).
Public liability insurance for your event and providers (we're not liable for injury, loss, or damage).
Lighting after twilight (e.g., lanterns/torches for paths/toilets/carpark).
More than 50people? Hire toilets (rule 25pp per loo) .
For 2 yrs Kerry Mart from Creative Beginnings has provided fun and successful Paint and Sip classes at Magpie Springs. Her fee entails: - tuition, equipment for class, one glass of Magpie Springs wine and pack up clean up for her class. Bookings for Paint and Sip parties are with her. Key Rules & Alcohol Policy
Alcohol: No BYO alcohol or self-serve bars (unless approved/licensed/insured). Only Magpie Springs wines allowed. No neat spirits.
Wine Options: Discuss early!
Budget: Buy starters; guests purchase extras by glass/bottle (Cellar Door open, EFTPOS available).
All-inclusive: Pre-purchase bottles.
Hybrid: Initial buy + tab (settled at end).
Responsible service: Provide food/non-alcohol; plan safe transport.
Timing: Opens 11am close 5pm. Curfew 11pm for evening gatherings (last drinks ~10:30pm).
Cleanup: Full responsibility of hirer – coordinate hired equipment pickups with us.
No storage from your function in Cellar Door/Art Gallery building.
Damage: Hirer covers costs (may require $500 bond).
Bringing children. Make sure there is someome supervising them.
We reserve the right to eject disruptive guests.
Boundaries: 1. We have a dam - no swimming, stay homestead-side SAFETY (snakes it is their home too! - stay out of long grass!) 2. No walking in vineyards (biohazard!) 3. Private home/sheds off-limits. 4. Dogs on lead are very welcome! Although understand, some folk are terrified by them. We have our own onsite, we put her inside our home when this is an issue. 5. Follow fire regulations (no open flames during this time!). 6. Flat shoes recommended - guest comfort!
7. Advise guests to bring jackets even in summer - it surprises everyone how much cooler we are on Willunga Hill. 4pm on temp usually dives . 8. Advise Magpie Springs if someone has mobility needs. We can direct driver to come closer and drop off closer to the action.
